Dubai Fish Hut Restaurant

We have been waiting for this restaurant to open since last December because of the yummy looking fish picture outside the restaurant plus the fact that there is free wifi and they accept cards. Dubai Fish Hut is located in Oud Metha near Lamcy Plaza.  The restaurant opens daily from 11:30 a.m. to midnight and 1:00 p.m. to midnight on Fridays.  Delivery is free.  The seafood served here are all fresh.  Just choose which kind you want and how you want it cooked, then the chef will do it willingly.  But, the very courteous staff will also help you decide on the best seafood menu.

Finally, tonight, i was able to taste some of the dishes from Dubai Fish Hut Restaurant.  Thanks to my flatmate, Lerma who gave me a treat.

The dinner starts with seafood soup, a creamy white soup with different small seafood and seafood flavor in it.  The taste was okay but, being on a low-sodium diet, it was too salty for me.

Then, the salad.  The salad was simply a mix of fresh green leafy, yellow and orange vegetables.  It was simply amazing and flavored (I think) nicely.

Crabs in garlic and butter with creamy secret sauce

This dish was actually our suggestion.  I told the chef that we wanted something buttery and garlicky for the crabs.  What i loved here is the sauce, which is a secret sauce and the cherry tomatoes on the side.  It was okay but I think my garlicky butter mixture does not fit the crab.  I will give it 3 stars.

Carolly Squid with rosemary and thyme plus secret bbq-like sauce

One of the most unique squid recipes I have tasted, not to mention another secret sauce that tastes like barbecue with turmeric.  I cannot explain but one of the bests.  Five stars for this.  Yummy!!

Grilled Sherry plus the secret creamy white sauce

I love grilled fish.  The chef nailed it.  Simply tasty.  Five stars for Sherry!

Salute to the 44 fallen Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police

I can't help but cry for these 44 fallen Philippine National Police officers who were in a hunt for Malaysian bomb-maker and Jemaah Islamiyah leader Marwan and Filipino bomb maker Abdul Basit Usman in Mamasapano town in Maguindanao, Philippines.

Today is national mourning day for these 44 fallen heroes.  I would like to give my salute to all the 44 brave special action force police who bravely defended our country of the sake of peace.  They were betrayed, they were brutally killed and worse, they were taken away from their family.

I pray that the families of these police officers will find peace and strength in God.  In times like we cannot understand His plans, in times when we have a lot of questions and in times of great grief, all we have to do is kneel and let God handle all of these feelings.

Again, to the 44 fallen heroes, MY SALUTE!

P.F.Chang's Deira City Center, Dubai

Wednesday night, 13 March 2013, Caren felt so generous to treat me and Yolly for a dinner at P.F. Changs in Deira City Center.  From work, we rode the Metro and alighted off Deira City Center Station.

NIDO LOVE to MY SON

Dear Gorby,

Always remember that I will always be your number one supporter.  In both success and failure, I will be behind your back.  In good times and bad times, you know i'm always with you.  Remember to bring to the outside world what you have learned from me.  In times of difficult decisions, always think of what would mommy say.  Whatever you do and wherever you go, I will always be with you.  Do not be afraid to fail but do not forget the lesson from the failure.  No matter what, I love  you my son.

Love,

Mommy

DIY Rainbow Loom Band

It has been awarded the toy of the year 2014, people’s choice award, activity of the year award, educational toy of the year and many other awards and nominations.  It is both a popular past time and a source of income for many.  The Rainbow Loom Band or Loom Band is this generation’s version of the friendship bracelet which is as ancient as the Mayans.  Now, it is currently the craze not only for crafters but also for children and adult alike.

According to Wikipedia, the Rainbow Loom Band was created by Cheong Choon Ng, a Malaysian immigrant of Chinese descent who came to the United States in 1991 to attend the Wichita State University where he earned a graduate degree of mechanical engineering.  He was employed as a crash-test engineer for Nissan Motor Company in 2010 when he conceived the idea of a toy loom for rubber-band crafting while watching his young daughters make rubber-band jewelry. His prototype, which he called Twistz Bandz, used a wooden board, pushpins, and dental hooks.  Encouraged by his family to market the product commercially, he invested $10,000 and found a factory in China to manufacture the parts, which he and his wife assembled in their home in June 2011.  Ng renamed his product after discovering an elastic hair band on the market named Twist Band.  His brother and niece came up with the name Rainbow Loom.

How is the Rainbow Loom Band made?  Using a Rainbow Loom, a peg-like board measuring about 2 inches in width and 8 inches in length, colored rubber bands are pulled and looped by means of a plastic crochet hook.  The resulting loops can be made into different shapes and into bracelets.  The Rainbow Loom kit, which can be bought online or from different stores include The Rainbow Loom, the plastic crochet hook, some rubber bands and a C-shaped or S-shaped fasteners to lock the band.

But how can we do a Rainbow Loom Band without the kit?  When I was small, we used to play with rubber bands, tied them together to create a long tie or garter and use it for crossing over or jumping over it.  The same principle is used in creating a Loom Band.  First, you will need a peg.  If you do not have the kit, then use the two-pronged mobile charger as your peg.  See below.

Then, place one band on the two prongs while twisting it like #8.  Add another band this time do not twist.  Add one more band, making it three bands.

Next, get a hook or just use your fingers to grab the bottom band from the outside, do this both side,  and place it over the top band.  Place another band on top and do the same again until you finish the desired length of your bracelet.

To lock the bracelet, you will need a C-lock or S-lock.  Hold on to the end of your bracelet.  Grabs your C-clip and attach the end of the bracelet.  Then, attach the other end of the bracelet.  Now you have your Rainbow Loom Band.

Alternatively, you can use two fingers as pegs but be very careful not to keep the bands on for long, otherwise you might get sore fingers.  Enjoy!
