Human and Steel: Lessons from Superman 2025

Superman 2025 directed by James Gunn is made for this generation.  Superman was played by David Corenswet (who by the way is a Star Wars fan, just saying).  It is a struggle of superman being human and alien.  Eventually, he said "I am as human as anybody.  They've always been wrong about me.  I love.  I get scared.  But that is being human.  And that's my greatest strength."  This version of superman shows more of the human side of him.  It is not only saving the world.  It also about mental health, legacy and identity.

Clark Kent was raised in Kansas by humble farmers.  He was torn between the earthly upbringing and his Kryptonian ancestry.  As a reporter in Daily Planet and as the boyfriend of Lois Lane, superman is left on deciding what kind of hero (and man) the world needs today.

Krypto, his foster dog, thou crazily savage, helps save the day.   Thinking who the real owner is? Watch the movie.

Here are 5 things we can learn from Superman 2025 movie:

1. Even heroes bleed.  Yes, he is superman but this movie has shown that there is weakness in his being human; and this weakness is his strength.  He can save the world (no doubt) but what about his own struggles, his own hurts and his own bleeds.  Do you sometimes feel that you are so good at helping others, but you are left alone to deal with your own issues?

2.  It's okay to show your gentle side.  It's not weakness being compassionate.  In a world where power is everything, superman teaches us that gentleness is a form of greatness.

3.  Coexist for a better world.  You do not have to choose between two worlds.  Clark Kent integrates his lives being a farm boy and the last son of Krypton.  It only reminds you that your dreams and contradictions can coexist.  You are allowed to do more than one thing. 

4.  Legacy is not what you left behind, it is who you choose to be.  Superman is not trying to live up to his father's (Jor-El) expectations, but he is making his own path.  This movie is showing us that we should not be dictated of what people think about us but choose and make your own destiny.

5.  There is always hope.  In this chaotic world, keeps on saving the earth.  He does not have all the answers, but he shows up every time.  Every day gives us new hope, be that hope to everyone else.

The 2025 Superman movie teaches us to be strong in our weakness, just like Krypto, unruly, savage and chaotic but who knows? he just might save the day.

Minsan tatay, minsan super hero

Inaway ko ang kalaguyo ng tatay ko noon.  Kasi namuti na yung itim ng mata namin ni nanay at yung anak ko pero hindi pa rin kami sinusundo papuntang St. Mary's ni tatay.  Nasaan ba kasi si tatay noon? Ayun nasa Jumeirah nasa kalaguyo niya nagluluto daw sila ng cassava.  Naalala ko college pa ko nagsimula ang affair niya.  Nagsimula sa konting padala hanggang hinayaan na niya si nanay na magtaguyod sa amin.  Pag magbabakasyon siya sa Pilipinas, two weeks lang lagi tapos nagmamadali pa. Kaya nung nakapag Saudi ako kinarir ko ang makapunta ng Dubai.  Nung dumating ako sa Dubai tinawagan ko siya.  Na surprise si tatay noon kasi di naman niya alam na mag wowork na ako sa Dubai.

Di ba hindi ideal ang tatay namin?  

Maaring nagkamali siya minsan pero nung ako nga nagkamali sa pag ibig, wala siyang sinabi kung di "ingat ka anak."  OFW siya kaya madalas wala sa tabi namin pero nung first time ko mag abroad sa Saudi, nagulat ako nahanap niya ang telephone number ng hospital na pinagtatrabahuhan ko at tumawag siyang sinabi "lakasan mo loob mo ha, wag ka ma homesick."  Wala akong matandaang father and daughter dialogue kasi tahimik si tatay hindi siya masalita pero nung iniwan ako ng ama ng anak ko, tumawag siya agad sa akin at sinabi "kilala kita alam kong kaya mo yan!"  Madalas si nanay ang nasa tabi ko pag maysakit pero nung si nanay ang magkasakit, nag retire siya at inalagaan niya hamggang sa death bed si nanay.  Hindi nga natutulog si tatay noon nagbabantay siya sa hospital.  At kinailangan niyang ring saluhin ang pagaalaga sa anak ko dahil namatay na si nanay. HIgit sa lahat nung inaway ko ang kalaguyo niya noon, pagsundo niya sa amin, niyakap niya lang ako at sinabing, "wala na kami nun tinulungan ko lang siya.  Sorry anak."

Hindi ideal father si tatay pero  siya ang binigay ng Diyos na perfectly fit para sa amin.  Siya yung tatay na biglang nagiging superman pag nasa bingit kami ng danger.    Siya yung tatay na magsakripisyo ng matagal sa abroad para mabigyan kami ng maluwag na pamumuhay.  Siya ang mc Gyver ng buhay namin dahil kahit anong sira kaya niyang kumpunihin.  Minsan na nga niyang kinumpuni ang kalungkutan ko ng ako maiwan ng isang minamahal.  Higit sa lahat, siya si captain barbel kasi kayang kaya niyang pasanin ano man ang mabibigat na suliranin sa buhay namin.
